Christelle Terreblanche wrote an interesting piece in the Sunday Independent recently (22 January 2006), entitled "TRC joins fight as apartheid victims and state clash". It begins: "As the government prepares to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC), two pending clashes show just how wide the gulf between civil society and the government over the commission's legacy has grown. On Tuesday Brigitte Mabandla, the justice minister, will square off against two sets of lawyers representing thousands of apartheid victims at an appeal hearing in New York over their 2002 compensation claims brought against foreign multinational companies and banks they accuse of aiding and abetting apartheid violence.
